"A Long Happy Life" and "Reanimation" were originally conceived as a single album, but eventually grew into a double release. Egor later decided to split them into two separate records. Even during the recording, he kept writing new songs — some of the last tracks, including the haunting and beautiful "Reanimation", were recorded with a drum machine after the drummer had already left.
These albums were unlike anything that came before (not counting "Zvezdopad" with its covers). The reasons were many: the line-up had completely changed, and for the first time in years, Egor was the only one from the earlier studio records involved. To record them, we bought a Roland Portastudio — a multitrack recorder we hoped would be a middle ground between our old ADAT system and computer recording. It ended up being a nightmare to work with, and we cursed it countless times.
The whole process lasted nearly two years. When the albums finally came out, it was a huge joy for all of us — and for Egor, a real victory. It happened eight years after "Solntsevorot" and "The Unbearable Lightness of Being", and the world around Egor had changed completely in that time.
